What a beautiful tribute to the marching bands written by Dorsey Burnette, a rockabilly singer who has written more than 350 songs. On his second album, Donny Hathaway did a great cover of this classic.

The Ghetto, live on TV One / CANCELLED

On April 5, 2010 (from 9 to 10 pm, US time), Tv One will air an episode of their Unsung series, entitled "Unsung Uncut". It will feature full length performances by many artists featured in this series including Shalamar, Bootsy Collins and the one and only Donny Hathaway. Donny will be performing "The Ghetto" from his May 14, 1970 appearance on the Soul show.

The Flip Wilson show (1972)



This is an incomplete video from the Flip Wilson show on NBC. This TV show (Season 3, Episode 5) was originally aired on October 26th, 1972. Donny played For All We Know & a cover of Put Your Hand In The Hand.
This gospel pop song was originally released as a single from the album Put Your Hand In The Hand by the band Ocean in 1971 and reached No. 2 on the Hot 100 chart.

On May 14, 1970 Donny Hathaway played a 10 min amazing version of The Ghetto (incl. a conga solo by Earl DeRouen) on PBS during the Soul TV show.

The line-up was :

The 15th Grammy Awards on March 3, 1973

The 15th Grammy Awards were held on March 3, 1973, and were the first to be broadcast live on CBS at Tennessee theatre, Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Donny picking up a grammy for Roberta Flack. She won the record of the year award for The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. Donny & Roberta also won together the "best pop vocal performance" award.

You Were Meant For Me (video)



This song written by William James Peterkin when he was only 17. It was given to Donny in the 70s & was issued on the album called "The Best Of Donny Hathaway", issued in 1978.
It was also issued on the cd, "A Donny Hathaway Collection" on April 2,1990 in the USA.
