Newport jazz festival, June 30th 1973

On June 30th 1973, Donny Hathaway played 2 gigs (an afternoon & an evening show) at Carnegie Hall in New York during the Newport Jazz festival. The show was recorded and later published on several records.

In 1974, Valdez In The Country was published on a LP compilation on Buddah Records (# BDS 5616) called "Recorded Live At Newport In New-York". Never published on CD.

In 1980, a live compilation called In Performance was published & it contains Nu-Po, a new tune Donny Hathaway has written especially for the occasion.
This version is taken from the afternoon show.

In 2004, an other live compilation called These Songs For You, Live ! came out. It contains 3 other tracks : Valdez In The Country (different version), Flying Easy & Someday We'll All Be Free.

In march 2010, you will be lucky to hear 2 more unrealised tracks, Love, Love, Love (feat. a spoken bridge about love) & a different version of Nu-Po taken from the evening show with a better sound.

More news to come...stay tuned !
